Viking Professional Series Range Repair

The Viking Professional Series range is the original commercial-style home range — built to spec from 1987 onward and still found in thousands of the finest kitchens across Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, and the Eastside neighborhoods of Bellevue and Mercer Island.

Open vs. Sealed Burner Professional Series

Open burner models (VGRC): The open burner configuration delivers the highest BTU output and most direct heat control. Service requires accessing the individual burner assemblies, pilots (older models) or igniters, and the underlying gas manifold. Open burner service is a specialization within Viking service — not every tech is experienced with it.

Sealed burner models (VGSC): The sealed burner Professional Series is more similar to the 5 Series in its architecture. Service is more straightforward but still requires Viking-specific knowledge.

Professional Series Range Lifespan

A well-maintained Viking Professional Series range should last 25-30 years. We regularly service Professional Series ranges from the late 1990s and early 2000s that are still performing excellently. These are not throw-away appliances — they were built to be repaired and maintained indefinitely.

FAQ

Viking Professional Series Range Repair FAQs

What's the difference between open burner and sealed burner Professional Series repairs?

Open burner Professional Series ranges (VGRC prefix) have exposed cast iron burners without a sealed top — more like commercial restaurant ranges. Sealed burner models (VGSC) have the familiar home-range sealed top. Open burner repairs require familiarity with the open burner ignition system, pilot assemblies on older models, and gas valve configurations specific to open burner architecture. We service both equally well.

My Professional Series range is from 2000 — can you still get parts?

For most Professional Series ranges made after 1995, core functional parts (valves, igniters, elements, thermocouples) are still available. Cosmetic and trim parts for very old units may require searching specialty parts sources, but we've been able to source parts for 20+ year old Professional Series ranges many times. We'll let you know parts availability upfront.

The oven igniter on my Professional Series glows orange but won't light the gas — why?

A gas oven igniter that glows but doesn't light means the igniter has weakened — it's not drawing enough current to open the gas safety valve. The igniter needs to be replaced. This is the most common oven repair on all Viking Professional Series models. It's a quick, affordable fix.
